Summary

Your license information for the Arcana Scheduler is contained in an electronic license certificate file; license numbers cannot be directly typed into the Arcana Scheduler. This article discusses common licensing issues.

More Information

License Information Now Available Online

Effective November 20, 2002, we have implemented an online license management system. Use this system to obtain replacement license information, transfer licenses between computers, and more. See the licensing page for more information.

License Verification

After you install or transfer the software or license information, always verify that your license is recognized correctly. In the Schedule Administrator, select About from the Help menu. Make sure your license number and details are displayed correctly, and that no error messages or evaluation warnings are displayed.

Installing the Arcana Scheduler from CD

Your CD came with a license number label, card, or paper license certificate containing a license number (which is a number in the form 0000-0000-0000-00000000). You must enter the license number during the CD installation process.

An electronic license certificate will be generated during the installation. This license certificate is tied to the computer on which the installation is run and will not work on any other computer. If you need to transfer the Arcana Scheduler to a new computer you must:

  • Install from the original CD, entering your license number.
  • Install a downloaded version of the software and use an electronic license certificate. If you purchased the software from us you received the electronic license certificate by e-mail at the time of your purchase. If you no longer have it, or didn't receive it from your reseller, contact us to receive a new one. Be sure to provide your license number when you write.

"Activating" or Licensing a Downloaded Version

If you installed the software from a downloaded installation package, the software operates in evaluation mode until a valid electronic license certificate is provided. When you purchase a license this file is e-mailed to you; follow the instructions that accompany it to install the license.

If you do not have the original e-mail but you do have the original license file, copy that file to the Arcana Scheduler program directory (the directory that contains "adscheduler.exe", then stop and restart the Arcana Scheduler service. Afterward, check to make sure that the license information has been recognized (see License Verification above).

If you no longer have your electronic license certificate use the license management system to request a replacement.

Transferring Your License Between Computers

Note that you must purchase a license for each computer on which the Arcana Scheduler service is running. If you wish to move the Arcana Scheduler from one computer to another without purchasing a new license you must remove the software from the old computer after it is installed on the new computer.

To transfer your license follow the appropriate steps as described above. You will need either your original installation CD and license number, or a downloaded installation package and your original electronic license certificate.

If you do not have your original CD and/or license number, you can download a new copy of the software. You will need your original electronic license certificate.

If you no longer have your original electronic license certificate you may be able to transfer the license file from the existing computer. To do so locate the license file (a file with the extension ".alc" in the Arcana Scheduler program directory) and move it to the same location on the new computer. Then stop and restart the Arcana Scheduler service. Be sure to confirm that the license has been recognized (see License Verification above). It is possible that the license was keyed to the original computer, in which case the About dialog will show the license information but will also show a note indicating that the license is not valid for the new computer; no scheduled programs will be run. If this is the case you will need to use the original license file that was e-mailed to you. If you no longer have it, use the license management system to request a replacement

Important Note: The electronic license certificate is a file with the extension ".alc", found in the same directory as the Arcana Scheduler software. If you originally installed the software from a CD, and in certain other cases, this license file is keyed to the computer on which the software was originally installed and will not work on any other computer. Therefore you should not move or copy this file between computers. When installing to a new computer you should always use the original license file e-mailed to you or request a new license file using the license management system.

Copying Scheduled Tasks Between Computers

Once you have installed the Scheduler on a new computer you can copy the scheduled tasks from the old computer. See article I02000057 for more information.
