Symptoms

When the Update Center displays downloadable updates, a checkbox allows you to select the updates you want to install. However, when you check one or more updates in the list, the Download buttons do not become enabled.

Cause

This problem occurs if Internet Explorer Enhanced Security is enabled on the computer. The Update Center uses Internet Explorer to display update information.

Workaround

Modify the security settings for Internet Explorer to allow the Update Center to run properly:

  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
  3. Select the Security tab.
  4. Select the Trusted Sites icon.
  5. Click the Sites button.
  6. In the Add this website to the zone box, enter the following text (without the quotation marks), then click Add:
    "about:security_ADUpdateAgent.exe"
  7. Click Close.
  8. Click OK.
  9. If the Update Center is running, close it and restart it.
  10. The checkboxes will now work correctly.
