Note: This article applies to adTempus 3.x and 2.x. For adTempus 4 and later, see article K00000417.

Summary

adTempus produces several diagnostic logs that can be used by customers and Arcana Development support staff to diagnose problems.

These log files can be found in the directory

[program files directory]\Arcana Development\adtempus\logs

 Three different logs are produced:

  • adtempussrv.[timestamp].log is produced by the service
  • adtconsole.[timestamp].log is produced by the Console
  • smtp.log is produced by the notification subsystem

A new log is created at the beginning of each day, or when a log grows greater than 10MB in size. Logs are automatically deleted after 7 days.

More Information

Ordinarily the log files will be small (less than 2k) and will not contain any information unless an error occurs. If an error occurs, additional information will be written to the log.

Enabling Full Diagnostic Logging

When attempting to diagnose a problem it is often necessary to increase the level of detail written to the logs. Follow the instructions below to do this when instructed to do so by support personnel.

Please ZIP any log files sent to Arcana Development.

adTempus Version 3.x

To enable full diagnostic logging, run the "adtloggingconfig" program found in the adTempus program folder. On computers with UAC enabled, use the "Run as Administrator" option when starting the program.

Check the "Full Diagnostic" option in the "Logging for adTempus Service" section (do not change the settings for the adTempus Console unless you are asked to do so). Click OK to close the tool, then restart the adTempus service so the new settings take effect.

With full logging detail enabled, the log files may grow very large. After you have produced the necessary logs as requested by technical support staff, run "adtloggingconfig" again and select the "Unspecified" option. Be sure to stop and restart the adTempus service so the settings take effect.

adTempus Version 2.1 or Earlier

To enable full diagnostic logging, double-click the registry file "fulllogging.reg" found in the adTempus program directory (this makes the necessary registry entries to increase the level of detai). After doing so, stop and restart the adTempus service.

With full logging detail enabled, the log files may grow very large. After you have produced the necessary logs as requested by technical support staff, double-click the registry file "loggingoff.reg" to set the logging level back to its default. Be sure to stop and restart the adTempus service so the settings take effect.
