Summary

The Arcana Scheduler can be used to schedule backups for backup programs that do not include a scheduler.

To do this it is necessary that your backup program support command-line parameters that tell it what action to perform.

This article briefly discusses backups using the backup utility included with Windows; if you are using a different backup application please refer to the documentation for that software.

More Information

To use the backup utility included with Windows you will need to set the Application in the Scheduler to "ntbackup.exe", including the full path to the program as necessary. You must then specify the command-line parameters necessary to perform the appropriate backup operation.

For complete information on these parameters, search for "command-line parameters" in the online help for the backup utility.

For a simple incremental backup of the C: drive your command line would look something like this:

c:\ /a /v /b /t incremental /tape:0
