Summary

When you have defined a network connection for your scheduled program, the Scheduler logs an error message similar to the following:

An error occurred while connecting L to \\server\share\dir for program . The program may not run correctly as a result. The network name cannot be found.

More Information

This error has two primary causes:

  • The server or share name you specified is not valid. Check the spelling and ensure that the network drive is accessible.
  • You are attempting to map the drive to a subdirectory within a share. For Windows networks, you can assign a drive letter only at the share level, not to a subdirectory of a share.

For example, you have the directory \files on the computer \\server1 shared with the share name "files." The \files directory has a subdirectory called images. You can map a drive letter to \\server1\files, but not to \\server1\files\images. If you want to map a drive letter to "images," you must create a share for that subdirectory.
