SMTP Service

I would like to use the built-in smtp service available on windows xp/2000 instead of an external smtp server for notification. This does not seem to work. The service is running and works fine for everything else. The error says there may be a problem in the recipient address but the address is valid. The error message is probably generic. Any help on this?

If you have not already done so, check the "smtp.log" file in the "logs" directory under the adTempus program directory. That log contains a transcript of the conversation with the mail server, so it will show you exactly what error the mail server returned.

If that doesn't provide enough information to figure out what's going on, please submit a support request for further assistance. Include the log when you submit your request.

The smtp.log file showed:

550 5.7.1 Unable to relay

I checked the properties for the smtp service and found restrictions were set on which machines were allowed to relay thru the service.

I corrected the restrictions and the notifications worked fine. Thank you for the timely response and pointer.
