adTempus Architecture
adTempus uses a client/server architecture for maximum flexibility.
Server
The adTempus "engine," which does the work of executing jobs, runs as a
Windows system service. It therefore starts automatically when the system
starts, and can run jobs even when no user is logged in to the system.

Client
The adTempus Console is the primary client tool for adTempus, used to
administer the adTempus server and to schedule and monitor jobs.
The Console communicates with the Server using TCP/IP, so it can be run
from any computer with a network connection to the server. This allows
users to administer adTempus from their workstations or even their homes
without using remote-access tools such as pcAnywhere.
Command-Line Tools
We provide a command-line utility to execute "on demand" jobs. Use this
utility to start jobs from batch files or desktop shortcuts.
ActiveX API
Our client tools communicate with the server using an ActiveX API. This API is fully documented, and
can be freely used by customers who wish to build their own client
tools.
Client Licensing
adTempus does not use client-based licensing: you can have any number
of client connections without requiring additional licenses.
Database
adTempus uses a relational database for data storage. This database is accessible
using any reporting tool that supports SQL databases, so you
can build custom reports to extract information such as job
statistics.
adTempus is distributed with the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express database engine.
If you already have a full SQL Server instance, you can use that instead.
