Arcana Development Announces adTempus

New job scheduling product offers big-business features at a small-business price

Fairfax, VA—January 1, 2003—Arcana Development, LLC, today announced the release of adTempus, its new batch job scheduling application for Windows NT/2000/XP.

adTempus allows users to automate and schedule the execution of any task: programs, scripts, system restarts, and more. In addition to running external programs and scripts, adTempus has built-in scripting support for executing Windows Scripting Host scripts that can return result codes to adTempus. And script libraries can be used to share commonly-used code and data among scripts.

Using an event-driven response mechanism, users can configure adTempus to link jobs, retry failed jobs, capture files and reports created by jobs, send e-mail messages to notify users of a job’s status, and run additional scripts. Job execution can be made conditional on many criteria, including the presence of trigger or input files. Job statistics such as processor time and memory usage are logged to a database for use in reporting, auditing, or accounting.

The adTempus scheduling framework easily accommodates any scheduling scenario, from a simple daily schedule to a complex rule-based schedule such as the nearest business day to the end of the month. Jobs can use common schedules to simplify administration, and customizable holiday settings can be used to have a job skip holidays or run on an alternative day (such as automatically running on the nearest business day).

adTempus is tightly integrated with Windows security. Administrators can tailor each user’s level of access to the adTempus server and the jobs on it, and allow users to schedule jobs to run under their user accounts without compromising system security.

The administration tool can be run from a remote computer, allowing administration from a remote workstation. And a soon-to-be-released Web-based tool will allow users to monitor and submit jobs from anywhere in the world using just a Web browser. Customers can also build their own client tools using the product’s freely-available programming interface.

Arcana Development is known for its previous scheduling tool, the Arcana Scheduler, which offered many advanced scheduling features at a low price. adTempus offers new and enhanced features that will benefit Arcana Scheduler customers and new customers alike, but remains priced to be affordable for organizations of all sizes.
