Appmon Provides System and Application Monitoring and Alerting for Windows NT and Windows 2000Software priced to be affordable for small- and medium-sized businessesFairfax, VAJanuary 10, 2001Arcana Development, LLC, today announced the release of Appmon, a new system and application monitoring and alerting tool for Windows NT and Windows 2000. Windows includes many tools for monitoring a system, but most of them are "passive" tools. This requires system administrators to go looking for problems. Appmon frees the system administrator from this task by watching for problems and then automatically taking action when they arise. For example, if a mission-critical application crashes on an unattended server, the system administrator may not know about it until users start complaining. With Appmon installed on the server, such problems can be addressed more quickly. Appmon can detect the crashed application and alert the system administrator right away (by e-mail or pager). Appmon can also be configured to restart the application, or take some other appropriate action. Appmon can monitor the system's Event Log, where many applications write error and warning messages. Instead of requiring administrators to review the log for potential problems, Appmon can alert them (based on user-defined filters) when certain events occur. Organizations can also easily integrate Appmon into their own applications, allowing their applications to use Appmon's powerful response and alerting capabilities. Many companies use a hodge-podge of 'home-grown' programs, scripts, and batch files to automate their operations. Often these applications are built on an ad-hoc basis and don't have a unified, coherent method of reporting problems to administrators. With Appmon, all such applications can report problems to Appmon, which serves as a centralized collection and dissemination point. If the list of people who needs to be notified about problems changes, it can be changed in one placein Appmoninstead of requiring changes to all of the individual applications. While other monitoring applications have long been available, most are "enterprise" tools with enterprise-sized price tags, often making them unaffordable for smaller organizations. Appmon provides a solid set of monitoring tools, priced to be affordable for organizations that do not need the advanced features of other products.
